The best and worst roulette strategies

Roulette is one of those games in the casino where, with the right strategy, one always gets the idea of having an advantage over the casino. That this is not the case in reality, most people know.

Aside from the fact that the game is extremely unpredictable, there aren’t as many possible strategies when compared to a game like online blackjack. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t recommend you give it a try. On the contrary, you should try to outsmart the casino. There are a number of strategies you can use to do this. Which ones are interesting and which ones are best left aside?

Roulette strategies you should know

A low risk strategy – Not everyone is a fan of high risk gambling. For example, it’s not wise to bet on a single number; some people do just that, but that’s beside the point. In European roulette you have a total of 37 numbers to choose from, while the American variant has 38 numbers (0 and 00). As you can see, it’s not easy to get one specific number right. Fortunately, you don’t necessarily have to bet on a number, but you can also choose the outside bets. These have a lower payout, but also a lower risk.

To give you a little extra profit in the outside bets, you could try playing on the dozens or rows. A correct choice will earn you not once the bet, but twice the bet. This means that even with two rows (example) and thus gambling on 2/3 of the possibilities, you can still grab a profit. It is the path of least resistance, because you don’t win much, but the chances of losing are also lower. The low-risk roulette strategy is ideal for beginning players. However, there are more strategies you can play.

Double after each loss

Another strategy is the doubling strategy. This is not recommended if you have a small bankroll, because the risk is simply too high. You play the outside bets again and choose the 50/50 possibilities: even/even, red/black and up/down. In doing so, you have more or less a 50% chance of winning each round, except for an outcome of 0. If you have a high bankroll, you could choose to double your bet after each lost round.

For example, you start with 1 euro, then 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and so on. As you can see, this strategy goes pretty fast, so a large bankroll is very important. Also, don’t start with this strategy after 2 consecutive reds, but wait until 7 or 8 reds have occurred. This is statistically safer, although of course you have a 50% chance of making a correct prediction each round.

The Martingale strategy…..Whether or not?

This is the last strategy we are going to discuss. But, we have already discussed this one. It’s a strategy you can use, but we want to advise against it at the same time. It gives people the chance that sooner or later they can win, but this is certainly not always the case. So the principle of the strategy is to double after each round and then return to the original bet if you win. This means that you have to take a lot of risk for a relatively low profit.

In fact, sometimes you bet more than 100 euros, while only playing for 5 euros of pure profit. The Martingale principle is too risky and not profitable enough to be taken seriously. What you could do, however, is keep doubling up until you reach a winning bet and then switch back in smaller steps. You’ll still make enough profit, but also play with more risk. The high rollers will appreciate this, however.

Strategies to leave out

Not every strategy designed for roulette is actually profitable. For example, many people use the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers and thus see a pattern, such as a certain range of numbers that fall often or a dozen in which the outcome often ends up. Or they choose the cold number ‘because it has to come sometime anyway’. These are patterns which become visible during the game, but which in principle say nothing. It therefore means that you take a lot of risk with these strategies. Each spin of the ball is again individual and in no way linked to the previous rounds. Especially if you want to bet on single numbers, the hot and cold numbers mean very little. But then again, taking risks is part of the game, so we can’t entirely blame you if you do opt for this strategy. If you are going to play roulette at an online casino, it is wise to use a strategy anyway.
