Of course roulette is a game of chance. It has a lot to do with the factor “luck”. But on the other hand you can control your luck a bit by using strategies and systems.
In particular betting strategies can be quite decisive whether you can end a session on a winning note. There are a number of different betting strategies used by experienced roulette players. In this article we will discuss one of these strategies.
The Labouchere system in roulette
One such roulette strategy is the Labouchere system. This is not a demonstrably profitable system, otherwise everyone would use it. Nevertheless, it is a roulette system with which you can give your chances of winning a positive boost. You do need a tight discipline for it.
The basis of the Labouchere system
The Labouchere system is quite complicated at first glance. Beforehand it is important to set goals and that mainly what amount you would like to win. After you have done this, put down on paper a series of numbers by which you expect to win this amount.
For example, if your goal is to win 50 euros, you put down on paper the following numbers; 5, 10, 5, 5, 5, 10, 5 and 5. The order and the number of steps you think you need to take do not matter.

A practical example of the Labouchere system
In the next step, you are going to play on the 50/50 options that roulette offers: red or black, even or odd and 1-18/19-36. Your first bet of you choose based on the first and last number you have in mind. So in the example above that would be two 5 euro bets.
If you won the round, then you get to strike out the first and last number. It is handy to have a piece of paper with the numbers on you, because you will still need them in the course of roulette. Anyway, you may strike out the first and last 5 euros, leaving the series 10, 5, 5, 5, 10 and 5.
Again, on paper, you continue to play on the first and last number of your sequence. You constantly bet the entire number on one of the 50% options, but may switch choices each round. In the ideal world, you would win all rounds, but this is not realistic.
So suppose you lose a round once, you write the full amount wagered in one number after your sequence. If you bet 15 euros in the second round and lose, then these numbers will appear after your sequence: 5, 5, 5, 10 and 15. Your third bet will therefore be 20 euros.

The Objective
The goal of the Labouchere system is that you obviously manage to get the full sequence of your paper. The further you get, the more profit you have normally made and the closer you are to the ultimate goal. The Labouchere system ensures that, in the end, a good prediction of 1/3 of all your bets is enough to complete the whole series.
This is because you cross out two numbers per round and only one number comes in its place. This sounds simpler than it is, but it is very effective. In addition, with the 50/50 rule you normally win just under 50% of your games (due to the number 0), so your chances of making this system a success are high.
Bring enough budget
Labouchere’s system can be very effective, but also very expensive. Within the system, it is actually assumed that you have won at least once in the first three or four rounds.
If you lose a number of times in a row, your budget runs out quickly, especially since you have to add up the numbers and losing rounds become more and more expensive. It is therefore a good idea to set your profit target at a proportional amount, which fits the budget you intend to gamble with.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you use the Labouchere all in roulette?
Can you use the Labouchere all in roulette?
No, if you have an almost 50/50 chance in other casino games you can use this system. So if you can play Blackjack well you can use it in the card game as well.
Is it a difficult system?
Not really, but you have to keep a close eye on your range. It is not recommended to apply it by heart.
What is the biggest risk?
If you are unlucky enough not to win for a long time, the amounts add up considerably. Then you need a big budget.
Henry Labouchere
The Labouchere system within roulette is named after the English politician, writer and theater owner Henry Labouchere. He was the one who invented and implemented the roulette system before the year 1900. As a true strategist, he was able to calculate that this roulette system could increase the chances of winning. What was and is important here is that a player is willing to stop when the ultimate win is reached. However, in the long run, the Labouchere system does not get rid of the casino’s house advantage. Fixing losses in the series often costs you larger sums of money, so the casino still has an advantage over the player.
