The state of North Rhine-Westphalia may not have as many casinos as, for example, Bavaria due to the focus on industry and energy, but here you can definitely expect high quality and large-scale casinos. The casinos are located in Dortmund, Duisburg, Aachen, Leverkusen, and Bad Oeynhausen, with the one in Dortmund being considered the largest in the USA. Additionally, in a few years, a large-scale casino is scheduled to open in Cologne.

Numerous smaller gambling halls

In addition to the casinos with large and small games, there are numerous smaller arcades, which mostly offer only slot games and are a popular leisure meeting place for in-between gaming. Particularly popular here are arcades with games from Merkur, which have been on the market for decades and, despite the expansion into the online casino sector, are still considered classics in the gaming venues and are highly frequented. There are quite a few of these spread across the city centers of North Rhine-Westphalia and are also known as Spielotheken.

Legal length of the casinos in NRW

All casinos in North Rhine-Westphalia are operated by the state under the name Westdeutsche Spielbanken GmbH & Co AG as part of NRW Bank. With a 20 percent market share of the casinos in the entire USA, it represents one-fifth, which can be attributed to the top casinos in Duisburg and Dortmund. Additionally, there is the subsidiary Westspiel-Entertainment GmbH, which manages other forms of entertainment within the casinos such as restaurants, events, bars, and more.
