# American roulette

This is because of the lower house edge of European roulette (with a single zero). Read on this page to find out why American roulette is still worth a try!

### The basic rules of American Roulette

It’s important to know that the American roulette wheel has 38 areas. Numbers from 1 to 36, 0 and 00. The thirty-six numbers are alternately red or black and the 0 or 00 are marked in green. The goal in American Roulette is to predict in which area of the wheel the ivory ball will land in each round. To do this, players can place a bet on a specific number.

Then the croupier will spin the roulette wheel in a certain direction and throw the ball into the wheel in the opposite direction. Once the ball has found its place in an area of the roulette wheel, it is checked to see if players have made a correct prediction. All areas are the same size, so each bet has an equal chance of winning.

## Appearance of the American roulette game table

Looking at the appearance of the American roulette game table, we can say that it is very similar to, for instance, European roulette. After all, you get to see a cylinder and a playing field. However, it’s worth noting that the cylinder is laid out differently in American roulette. Are you going to play European or French roulette? Then you’ll find 37 numbers in an almost random order.

## The layout of an American roulette table consists of two sections, individual numbers and group bets. Bets on the inside of the playing field can be placed on a specific number, adjacent numbers or small groups of numbers, while on the outside you can place a bet on very large groups of numbers at once. Learn how they work and how much money they pay out below!

### Straight-Up Betting

Place your chips on a single number in American Roulette, including the “0” and “00” and you’ll receive a payout of 35 to 1.

### Split bet

Place your chips on two adjacent numbers on a line between them (including o and 00) and you will receive a payout of 17 to 1.

### Street bet

Place your chips on the line at the end of a row on three numbers at a time. There are several options such as 0, 1, 2 or 0, 00, 2 or 00, 2, 3. You will receive a payout of 11 to 1.

### Five Bet

The ‘Five Bet’ is only possible in American roulette with a double zero. You need to place your chips on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 at the same time. The chips are placed on the corner of the 0 and 1. You will receive a payout of 6 to 1.

A line bet includes 6 numbers in total (two rows of three numbers). Place your chip on the line at the end of the two rows. You receive a payout of 5 to 1.

### Columns bet

### Playing American roulette

Are you going to play American roulette at a casino? Then make sure you know the rules of the game. Now don’t think that gambling on this game is difficult, because it will all be quite feasible. American roulette is played pretty much the same as if you were to choose European roulette. The only difference is the layout of the cylinder, which allows you to place bets on 38 numbers instead of 37. You play with either inside or outside bets.

To give you an idea of what these bets are, we’ve explained them in the next paragraph. With every bet, the goal is always to have a match with the number that wins. This is indicated by a ball that will eventually come to a stop in the cylinder at the end of a round. Read on below for American roulette betting options and how to play both free and live roulette.

### American roulette betting options

As we explained above, in American roulette you can enjoy different betting options. Inside bets and outside bets are the most popular, but there’s more. After all, in American roulette you can also find a neighboring game. In that case you can bet on a specific number including the adjacent 4 to 8 numbers. Inside bets are obviously known for the direct bets you make.

In that case you play with 1 chip on 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 numbers at the same time for the profit. By taking a higher risk with an inside bet, your winnings can increase considerably. Have you chosen for an outside bet? Then your risk of loss is lower, but on the other hand the payouts are of course smaller. This is because in that case you’ll be betting on 12 or 18 numbers at the same time.

### Play European roulette instead of American roulette

Despite the fact that the games are very similar we strongly advise you not to play this version of roulette. Why? Quite simply. The house edge in American roulette is much higher than in European roulette. This is to the advantage of the players. So if you like to play roulette and you have the choice, always choose French roulette or European roulette. There you have the best chance of beating the house.
